Environmental Initiatives
What we make matters. And how we make it matters just as much. Our operational efficiency is enhanced by industry-leading resource utilisation benchmarks.
Over time, we have focused on reducing resource use while improving efficiency across operations. Our freshwater consumption is now below 30 cubic metres per metric ton of paper, placing us among the lowest in India’s integrated paper manufacturing sector.
More than 50% of treated water is recycled back into the process through our effluent treatment and Zero Liquid Discharge systems. The Zero Liquid Discharge system combines ultrafiltration, double-stage reverse osmosis, multiple effect evaporators, and an agitated thin film dryer (crystallizer), allowing us to recover more than 99% of process water and eliminate liquid discharge.
Energy use follows the same approach. Over 75% of our total power comes from non-fossil sources, including biomass fuels such as rice husk, bagasse pith, wood chips, wood dust, and bark, along with solar and energy recovered through the process itself.
Waste is managed with the same focus. Pulp rejects and sludge are redirected to nearby kraft paper manufacturers for use in lower-grade products, minimising landfill disposal and supporting a circular economy approach.
We also operate advanced multi-stage effluent treatment and air-pollution control systems, including electrostatic precipitators and bag filters, ensuring compliance with the regulations of the Central Pollution Control Board and the Uttarakhand State Pollution Control Board.
