The story of Naini Papers began in 1995 in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, in the Terai belt at the foothills of the Himalayas, a region naturally rich in fibre like bagasse, wheat straw, eucalyptus and poplar. We started small with a single paper machine supported by our own agro-residue based pulp mill.

In 1999, Naini became one of the first to produce high-quality absorbent kraft paper for high-pressure laminates using agro-based pulp, creating a cost and process advantage over traditional wood-based alternatives. That move set the pace for what followed.

In 2005, a second paper machine, PM2, was commissioned, expanding our capability and portfolio into writing and printing grades. As demand grew, especially from the education sector, PM1 was also realigned to writing and printing paper in 2008.

The years after that were about strengthening the core. Both machines underwent major rebuilds, PM2 in 2011 and PM1 in 2014, replacing indigenous sections with advanced equipment from global suppliers. The focus was clear: better quality, higher efficiency, and consistency at scale.

From 2018 onwards, Naini began strengthening its energy backbone.
A 12 MW biomass-based power plant was commissioned, followed by further expansion in captive power, including a high-efficiency recovery boiler and additional capacity. Today, a major share of our energy needs is met through renewable sources.

In 2021, the company took a major leap in raw material capability with the commissioning of a new hardwood pulp line, supplied by Valmet. The same year also saw the introduction of ECF bleaching, along with a high-efficiency recovery boiler and a rotary lime kiln, strengthening both environmental performance and process efficiency.

And then came 2025. With the commissioning of a new paper machine, PM3, designed and supplied by Valmet, Naini entered a new phase. PM3 stands among the most advanced machines in India, capable of producing premium coated paper for flexible packaging, labels, wrappers, pouches and pharmaceutical applications.
